SEANZ has learnt the lessons that come with the rapid uptake of solar and batteries in other countries such as Australia. With increased activity comes an increase in the number of dubious people and businesses looking to make a quick buck off the back of unsuspecting consumers and reputable companies such as:
- Using unethical and unscrupulous methods to get business,
- misleading advertising, and
- forceful sales tactics such as trying to secure the little old ladies credit card numbers.
New Zealand is and will continue to experience the same issue.
BUYER BEWARE from SEANZ acts to avoid pitfalls for stakeholders. SEANZ is doing its utmost to expose such behaviours and protect consumers and businesses.
We are publishing information here below to help stakeholders make informed decisions, backed by data and facts from Commerce Commission, Electricity Authority and SEANZ investigations:
- Exposing common pitfalls
Uncovering organisations involved:
- About working with or for them, or
- As a consumer engaging them to install a solar/battery system.
At SEANZ we represent stakeholders in the solar/battery industry from businesses to end-users and consumers. SEANZ members who supply and install these technologies, must uphold and work to the mandatory SEANZ Code of Conduct which is strict and spells out, that they must maintain professional business dealings at all levels. This protects all parties. SEANZ provides a process to assist all stakeholders in the event of an issue, SEANZ provides recourse.
SEANZ members who do not abide by the SEANZ Code of Conduct have their membership revoked - a number already have been for breaking the rules. And they lose all the value and benefits that come with SEANZ.
The SEANZ Code of Conduct can be downloaded here.
SEANZ calls out non-SEANZ organisations that mislead the public (no-one else will call them out) and bring the industry into disrepute. SEANZ has been threatened legally with defamation and taken to task on a few occasions, the latest being at the start of 2019 by a non-SEANZ organisation over revealing the facts, to no avail.
As a consumer, if you are considering solar, batteries or related technology, please save yourself lots of grief and money - engage a SEANZ member for all solar/battery system advice and installation. Play it safe and limit your risk. Click here to engage a SEANZ professional. If they are not listed in this directory you have little or no recourse if and when things go wrong.
