Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority
Dr Marcos Pelenur was appointed Chief Executive of EECA (the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority) in September 2023. EECA is Aotearoa New Zealand’s Crown agency dedicated to mobilising New Zealanders to be global leaders in clean and clever energy use.
With a career spanning international policy, behavioural insights, and engineering, Marcos brings wide-ranging expertise to the role. He holds a PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge, is a Chartered Professional Member of Engineering New Zealand, and a Chartered Engineer with the UK Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
EECA is a delivery agency, a regulator, and an authority for energy use. EECA works across emerging and innovative technology, smart systems and future fuels to support households, industry and Aotearoa New Zealand. Strategic focus areas include promoting energy efficiency, accelerating the uptake of renewables such as solar, and empowering New Zealanders to make confident energy choices.
As part of its wider mission, EECA plays an important role in driving solar uptake, providing guidance, research, and targeted support to help households, businesses, and communities harness renewable energy.
