Aiko Energy - How Harrisons Solar Brought AIKO's Technology to Kairos Food Rescue
The Christchurch charity, which processes 70 tonnes of rescued food a month, needed a system that fit its specific operating pattern: busy by day, closed overnight. Harrisons' team took the time to understand that rhythm and sized the system precisely around it, turning Meridian Community Decarbonisation Fund support into a tailored, well-executed install rather than a generic solution.
At the heart of that system are 40 AIKO solar panels, paired with a 15-kilowatt Fronius inverter and monitoring setup. AIKO's ABC cell technology is built for consistent output even as light conditions shift through the day, which matters for a warehouse with a fixed energy demand and no room for underperformance. The result speaks for itself: the system generates 20,000 kilowatt-hours a year, covering 50% of Kairos's energy needs and saving an estimated $4,000 annually, sustained over more than 25 years of expected performance life.
For Kairos, that reliability has a direct impact, the savings now help fund the electric vans that get rescued food to the community.
