Project Snapshot

Location: 22 Jack Stevenson Road, Drury

Client: NZ Blackwoods

System Size: 450kW

As a flagship development within the Drury South Crossing precinct in South Auckland, the new NZ Safety Blackwoods National Distribution Centre represents a benchmark for modern industrial sustainability.

Endless Energy has designed and commissioned a massive 450kW solar solution, comprising 882 high-efficiency Trina panels and 4 Sungrow inverters, making it one of the most significant renewable energy installations in the South Auckland industrial corridor.

Project Purpose

NZ Blackwoods and the developers of Drury South Crossing are committed to future-proofing their infrastructure. By integrating large-scale solar from the outset, the project aimed to:

Decarbonise operations: Significantly reduce the carbon footprint of a high-capacity distribution hub.

Operational efficiency: Drastically lower day-to-day energy overheads, providing long-term protection against rising grid electricity prices.

Precinct leadership: Serve as a “proof of concept” for the Drury Crossing estate, demonstrating how property developers can add immense value to industrial tenancies through renewable energy.

An aerial high-angle view of the NZ Blackwoods industrial warehouse, a large blue and grey building featuring a substantial rooftop solar installation by Endless Energy. Multiple rows of sleek, black solar panels are mounted across the expansive metal roof. The facility is situated in a modern commercial park with clean asphalt roads, green landscaping, and other large industrial buildings visible in the background under a clear sky.

Engineering & Installation

The installation features 882 x 510W Trina Solar panels, chosen for their high power density and reliability in New Zealand’s conditions. To manage the massive energy output, we utilised 4 x Sungrow inverters, known for their superior efficiency and smart monitoring capabilities.

The layout was meticulously planned to maximise the vast roof space of the Drury facility, ensuring peak generation while maintaining easy access for roof and panel maintenance.

Financial & Environmental Impact

Energy independence: With a 450kW capacity, the system is designed to cover a substantial portion of the facility’s daytime load, feeding any excess back into the local network or supporting precinct-wide goals.

Carbon reduction: (Estimated) This system is expected to offset approximately 50-60 tonnes of CO₂ per year, contributing significantly to the sustainability of the Drury South Crossing development.

Asset value: For property developers within the estate, this project proves that solar is no longer an “add-on” but a core asset that increases the desirability and value of industrial properties.

Project Outcomes & Significance

A new standard for Drury: The NZ Blackwoods system stands as a shining example for other developers within the Drury Crossing estate.

Seamless integration: Delivered efficiently on a brand-new build, showing how solar can be integrated into the construction phase of large-scale industrial sites.

Scalable performance: The use of Sungrow technology allows for detailed monitoring, ensuring NZ Blackwoods can track their ROI in real-time.

Why This Project Matters to Endless Energy

This project highlights Endless Energy’s ability to deliver “utility-scale” commercial solutions. By partnering with visionary developers at Drury South Crossing, we are proving that the future of New Zealand’s industrial landscape is powered by the endless energy of the sun. It’s not just about one building, it’s about setting a precinct-wide standard for sustainable growth.
