S-rack Australia Pty Ltd - Kapuni Solar Farm
Business | Kapuni, New Zealand (2022)
The Kapuni Solar Farm in South Taranaki is New Zealand’s largest grid-connected solar power plant, delivering renewable electricity directly into the local network. Since beginning operations in May 2022, the 2.6 MW facility has generated enough clean energy to power more than 520 New Zealand homes annually.
Covering the equivalent of several hectares, the farm features 5,808 solar modules mounted on S-Rack’s Sigma S1 Steel system. The system was engineered with additional ground clearance, enabling sheep to graze beneath the panels — maximising land use efficiency and supporting local agricultural practices. This agrisolar approach ensures that the site contributes to both renewable energy generation and ongoing farming activity, delivering dual value to the community.
S-Rack’s Sigma S1 system was selected for its robustness and adaptability to local conditions, providing long-term performance and ease of maintenance. The fixed-tilt design supports efficient installation while ensuring resilience in New Zealand’s variable weather environment.
Kapuni Solar Farm demonstrates how utility-scale solar can be integrated with existing land use to create sustainable, future-focused outcomes. As New Zealand accelerates its renewable energy pipeline, Kapuni stands as a pioneering example of how solar infrastructure can deliver reliable power while respecting and enhancing the rural landscape.
