SEANZ steps up - Support for the SolarZero affected
Since the announcement of the liquidation of SolarZero on November 26, 2024, SEANZ got to work actively supporting the 160 plus affected employees and solar installer contractors, given it was clear the sole shareholder was taking the typical hard nosed approach of an asset and investment business. SEANZ acknowledges the challenges the staff and contractors are facing, sympathises and is committed to providing support where we are able to during this challenging transition.
An urgent Board meeting to understand the situation and plan how we could best support, was called whereby it was decided, a website portal would be built and developed overnight to facilitate job applications, visible to SEANZ members looking to employ skilled solar industry staff.
The Job Directory launched immediately on completion, along with establishment of a register of SEANZ members with offers of help, as well as a contractor members register, so SEANZ could provide focussed support for those affected contractor members. That is part of the value of being a SEANZ member.
There have been significant successful job placements which continue. One SEANZ member has employed 6 ex solarZero staff, with a view to taking more.
SEANZ Board Directors involved in the industry, led the way by supporting member contractors where they could by;
- Securing weeks of work to help cover lost income
- Paying in full upon completion of contractors work, rather than standard payment terms
- Providing free sales leads to those affected to help them secure more work.
The discussions and updates are happening daily between SEANZ, members, affected contractor members and the wider industry to continue to provide support where needed most.
SEANZ continues to encourage members to please engage skilled subcontractor members ensuring health and safety and quality standards are met while helping those affected regain stability.
